![]() ![]() Here are some selected categories and my selected thoughts on who might deserve to win and who might actually take home the… bronzed globe? What the hell Eisners, why is the statuette for these awards a globe? what does that have to do with comic books? I don’t know if you guys know but you could choose literally anything to be the trophy you give out for these things, may I suggest that next year you give everyone one of these: This year happens to be a very good one for the awards, because even though 2013 was pretty light on major art-comics releases (aka, Chris Ware, Art Spiegelman, and Daniel Clowes did not release books in 2013), I actually managed to read a lot of the stuff that did get nominated, which either means the Eisners are getting better or my tastes are getting worse (or the exact opposite of both!). If you don’t know, the Eisners are like the Oscars of comics (sorry Harveys, you are the Golden Globes) - faced with the twin mistresses of Commercial Success and Artistic Merit, they are forced to come up with choices that try to please everybody and often end up pleasing no one. Remember that book? You should read that book.Įisner Awards nominees were announced today! Winners will be announced July 25th at San Diego Comic Con. ![]() ![]() That’s Vera Brosgol’s 2012 Eisner for Anya’s Ghost. ![]()
